⌐◪-◪ → EigenLayer is set to release its native token in May and just released their airdrop plans, and crypto Twitter is not happy.

In addition to just sounding complicated with the name “universal intersubjective work token” the airdrop’s primary criticisms are:

• non-transferable airdrop

• 55% goes to team & investors

• immediate vesting for investors

• small 5% allocation for stakers

• geo-blocking in US + banning VPNs

EigenLayer announced their plans on a Bankless live stream, and the community’s reaction was so bad they had to disable the comment section. Yikes.

Sometimes it’s better to just stick to the “norm” than try and reinvent the wheel and do things differently.

⌐◪-◪ → Moonbirds, recently acquired by Yuga Labs, just announced they are reversing their decision to go CC0.

“Starting today, Moonbirds will join Mythics as a collection with commercial rights"

This is interesting because you legally cannot reverse CC0 designations, it’s irrevocable. The workaround is issuing new Moonbirds art WITH commercial rights.

This workaround is right out of Taylor Swift’s playbook when she famously re-recorded her album.

Looks like Yuga is not messing around with their newfound commitment to agility, or what I’m calling the return to their “fuck around and find out” phase.

Furthermore, Moonbirds announced ‘Moonbirds Universe’, a virtual world featuring avatars optimized for 3D animations and integration with Yuga's Otherside.

Per usual, some people love these decisions and others hate them.

• Half Full → Moonbirds community never wanted to go CC0 and Universe Land could help Yuga turn the company around.

• Half-Empty → Reversing CC0 is not very web3, and the land sale is a tone-deaf and desperate cash grab.

⌐◪-◪ → Founder of Binance, CZ, will be sentenced today in a court in Seattle after pleading guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act.

The Department of Justice has recommended 3 years in prison, citing the scale of his misconduct, but many feel this is overkill.

Naturally, Polymarket users are already betting on how long CZ sentences will be, assigning a 49% chance to his sentence being less than 6 months. Not bad.

Note: CZ's plea agreement said he couldn’t appeal any sentence under 18 months. So, while there’s no clause preventing prosecutors from recommending a greater sentence, it would give CZ the right to appeal.
