Specs’ Breakdown

1. Japanese firm Metaplanet mimics MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin strategy

⌐◪-◪ → Japanese public company Metaplanet’s stock is up almost 90% after announcing their Bitcoin strategy.

They are taking a play out of MicroStrategy’s playbook, and have already added ¥1B ($6.59M) to their balance sheet.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again — I truly believe this is the cycle where we start to see corporations, states, and entire nations compete for Bitcoin’s supply.

The world’s largest banks are already competing to buy Bitcoin, going as far as contacting miners directly for private deals as we covered in last Thursday’s issue.

The best part of this story is that Metaplanet started as a budget hotel operator under the name Red Planet before transitioning to a web3 software development company.

I really hope we see the emergence of a Japanese Michael Saylor.

2. Google searches for “bitcoin” and “crypto” surge to bull market levels

⌐◪-◪ → Google searches for Bitcoin and crypto are returning to bull market levels, but are still far from all-time highs, 50% to be specific.

Meanwhile, only 1.7M Bitcoin remains on centralized exchanges. When you look at this, the growing demand/interest in crypto, and the upcoming halving supply shock → it paints a very bullish picture.

With that said, Bitcoin’s inactive supply is at an 18-month low of 65.8%. According to the data tracking website MacroMicro, a decrease in the percentage of inactive BTC is a leading indicator for the end of a bull run.

Arthur Hayes is also bearish on the upcoming halving, saying it could, "add propellant to a raging firesale of crypto assets."

3. PlayStation to integrate GUNZ blockchain with OpenSea

⌐◪-◪ → PlayStation’s Gunzilla Games plans on integrating GUNZ blockchain with OpenSea’s NFT marketplace.

The goal is to let players trade in-game items seamlessly across various titles built on the GUNZ blockchain.

GUNZ is being built on a custom Avalanche subnet, creating a compliant and transparent trading platform that ultimately bridges the gap between traditional web2 gaming and emerging web3 gaming.

This isn’t Sony’s (owner of PlayStation) first foray into crypto either, as we covered in last Friday’s issue.

The company is conducting a stablecoin trial on Polygon, which tells me they’re testing out multiple blockchain providers (Polygon, Avalanche, and maybe more).

As a gamer, it’s exciting to see one of the world’s largest gaming powerhouses experiment with blockchain. After all, it was video games that introduced me to the concept of digital items — and now blockchain is here to set digital items free.
