Specs’ Breakdown

1. CryptoPunks reveals controversial “Super Punk World” collab

⌐◪-◪ → CryptoPunks just revealed an NFT collab — Super Punk World — with world-renowned artist Nina Chanel Abney, the first (and last) Punk in Residence.

Unfortunately, the project saw massive backlash from the community, with some people saying that:

  • The art is “bad” or too “woke”

  • It’s an obvious cash grab by Yuga

  • Yuga should just “do nothing” instead

The backlash was so strong that Yuga Labs CEO posted a tweet saying “Yuga will no longer touch punks.” — which likely means no more Punks in Residence and no more partnerships.

While there’s a lot to unpack here from Yuga’s monetization of Punks IP to racism and “woke” America — two things are obvious to me:

1) Love/hate her work, Nina just made waves with her new project. She captured the attention of all of Crypto Twitter (not easy) and highlighted some real issues in the process.

2) CryptoPunks cannot be killed — no matter what Yuga does (does not) do. Despite all the backlash, the floor sits at a healthy $135k.

As a Punk holder since 2017, my conviction in the project is stronger than ever.

2. Bloomberg increases odds of ETH ETF approval to 75%

⌐◪-◪ → Bloomberg just increased the odds of spot Ether ETF approval from 25% to 75% after hearing “chatter” that the SEC could be doing a 180° on the issue. Polymarket agrees, with odds of an approval pivoting from 10% to 71% overnight.

They speculate the change may be politically motivated, and that Biden’s administration is making efforts to appear more crypto-friendly as the election nears.

The SEC has already asked all spot Ethereum ETF applicants to amend their 19b-4 filings by 10 am tomorrow — showing real urgency on the issue.

Eric Balchunas thinks approval could happen as early as tomorrow.

The most exciting part about all of this isn’t ETH’s price surge, but rather the broader message that crypto as a technology is here to stay.

3. Uniswap Labs & Across Protocol introduce ERC-7683 token standard

⌐◪-◪ → Uniswap Labs just released ERC-7683 in collaboration with Across Protocol, proposing a new standard for cross-chain intents.

The standard has been proposed to the CAKE Working Group for discussion and review.

Uniswap plans adopt this new standard for seamless cross-chain swaps on the upcoming UniswapX platform.

The future is cross-chain.
